Renewable Opportunities  for Water Utilities: A Scottish Water Case Study

About

Exploration of water utilities and their role within a renewable energy system is particularly pursuant regarding the overall global objective of reducing carbon emissions. Our research used Scottish Water as a case study to investigate industry specific renewable opportunities within the water network that will enable sustainable development and progression towards a smarter more integrated industrial ecosystem. To meet these objectives and ensure net zero is achieved we identified the mindset of Reduce, Rethink, Renewable Integration as being key to a strategic outlook for renewable routemaps moving forward.

Our main areas of research focus are:

    Energy Storage

• The assessment of conventional energy storage options.

• Investigation of potential for short term wastewater storage.

    Energy Recovery

• Quantification of the potential of energy recovery from the water network.

• The Powering of a smart network.
